Girl with burn injuries hospitalised in Balasore

A 28-year-old girl was hospitalised after she sustained burn injuries in an incident at Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore town on Sunday.

BALASORE: A 28-year-old girl was hospitalised after she sustained burn injuries in an incident at Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore town on Sunday.While the girl’s relatives alleged that some unidentified miscreants threw acid on her, police claimed the evidence collected so far did not reveal any acid attack. According to the complaint lodged with Sahadevkhunta police, the girl and her friend were on their way to the market when two miscreants intercepted them enroute.

“One of them threw a bottle of acid on her before managing to flee from the spot. She received burn injuries on her face, chest and hands,” the complainant who claimed to be uncle of the victim stated in the FIR.  The girl was initially rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack after her condition deteriorated. She is stated to be critical.

Balasore SP Jugal Kishore Banoth said eyewitness and circumstantial evidence revealed that the girl accidentally received burn injuries while she was trying to set the office of a financial institution on fire. “As per preliminary inquire it is learnt that the girl had a dispute with an official of the financial institution. She was trying to set ablaze his office by pouring petrol. Investigation is on. A case has been registered and a three-member team formed to probe the case,” he added.
