Odisha: Woman’s torso recovered from Puri-bound train

A headless body of a woman was found from a toilet of a Puri-bound passenger train here on Wednesday morning, a Railway Protection Force officer said. 

PURI: A headless body of a woman was found from a toilet of a Puri-bound passenger train here on Wednesday morning, a Railway Protection Force officer said. Hours later, locals spotted a severed head on the railway tracks near Delang railway station.

“A passenger reportedly spotted the torso lying in a pool of blood around 6.30 am when the train reached platform No. 8 at Puri railway station. He immediately informed us,” the officer said.A team of Government Railway Police (GRP), along with forensic experts,  recovered the body from the train.

“The identity of the woman is not yet known. Police suspect she might have been killed in the train and her body dumped in the toilet,” the RPF officer added. Police recovered a blood-stained knife believed to be used for the murder. After inquest, the body was sent to  district headquarters hospital for postmortem. The GRP registered a case of murder and investigation is on. Police also suspect that more than one person may be involved in the murder. According to preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the train ran as Puri-Khurda Road passenger on Tuesday night and had returned to Puri from Khurda at about 6 am.
