Another fake edible oil unit busted in Odisha 

In a major crackdown on food adulteration units, Commissionerate Police busted a fake edible ghee and oil manufacturing unit near Jagatpur, here on Tuesday.

CUTTACK: In a major crackdown on food adulteration units, Commissionerate Police busted a fake edible ghee and oil manufacturing unit near Jagatpur, here on Tuesday.Beside 120 tin cans (16 kg each) filled with ghee, mustard and refined oil, police also seized 14 bottles of essence used for adulteration, labels of different brands of oil and ghee manufacturing companies and 8 containers (50 litre each) containing sub-standard oil for adulteration of ghee.

Police have also arrested 53-year-old Anadi Charan Behera of Mangalabag Khandyatsahi who is the owner of fake edible oil manufacturing unit. “The unit used to procure low quality oil and produce adulterated ghee, mustard and refined oil by mixing essence and colour. The products were supplied to retailers under various brand names like Ruchi Gold, Durga, Chakadola, Ganesh and Laxmi,” DCP Akhilesvar Singh said.

Investigation is on to ascertain since when the unit was running and the source of the low quality oil, Singh said.On April 30, police had raided an edible oil godown at Khannagar Nuasahi under Badambadi police limits and seized more than 300 adulterated oil-filled containers. Two persons, including the owner of the godown, were detained for interrogation.
