Jawan held from Assam for jeweller’s murder 

The SP said analysis of details of communication over phone and Facebook between Sanjay and Aruna revealed that both had planned to murder the jeweller twice earlier, but failed.

DHENKANAL:  An Army jawan, Sanjay Kumar, was on Saturday arrested by a team of Dhenkanal police, led by Town IIC Abhinav Dalua, from Dibrugarh in Assam for the murder of a jeweller Mantu Patra.Mantu was murdered at his residence at Mina Bazar under Town police limits on September 3 this year. Briefing mediapersons, Dhenkanal SP Santosh Kumar Nayak said the accused was in a relationship with the victim’s wife Aruna for the last two years. Sanjay had come to Dhenkanal and met Mantu’s wife at a hotel. This had led to a discord between the couple. Aruna had kept her marriage a secret from Sanjay and asked him to kill Mantu.

The SP said analysis of details of communication over phone and Facebook between Sanjay and Aruna revealed that both had planned to murder the jeweller twice earlier, but failed. On September 3, the jawan purchased a sharp-edged weapon and hacked Mantu to death.

A few hours before the incident, the victim was drugged by Aruna. Police have already arrested the victim’s wife and she has been sent to jail after her bail plea was rejected. Nayak said Sanjay was produced before a magistrate and a Brigadier in Dibrugarh.
