Forty five-year-old Chandra Sekara Umrah of Seranthai Village near Valinokkam is worried over the frequent loss of his ‘hard earned’ income. He claimed to have lost money on several occasions and at different places.
Umrah had been living alone after his parents died several years ago. Unable to find proper employment, he began begging for alms in various places.
Surprisingly, he ended up making enough at the end of the day to save some of his income after having met his daily expenses.
Umrah initially lived in Erwadi area in the district where some unident ified persons allegedly stole `27,000 from his savings.
He shifted to his base to Kanjirankulam. But there too, the thieves targeted him. He lost `3,000, his beedis, water bottle and old clothes.
According to estimates given by him, Umrah lost `36,098 at various places so far. He had lodged complaints at different police stations but the policemen apparently were not ready to believe his words.
As a last resort, he submitted a petition at the Collectorate during a grievance day meeting on Monday.
Umrah said that he collected money from visitors coming to different places of worship.
At the end of the day, he had enough to save as well. However, the faceless thieves were now giving him sleepless nights.
