Flood wall work halted in Yanam

The flood protection wall project at Yanam, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 139.67 crore by the central government, has been halted by the Union Territory government

The project had been included for funding under the flood management programme by the central Ministry of Water Resources and an amount of Rs 7.5 crore was released during 2009-10, informed Harish Rawat, Union Minister of Water Resources, in a letter to A Anbazhagan, State AIADMK secretary and MLA.

The Puducherry government informed that the project had been put on hold in view of allegations received by the it and a CBI enquiry was being conducted.

Deliberate delay

Anbazhagan alleged that the CBI probe into the Yanam industrial violence and corruption in the flood wall project was being deliberately delayed by the Congress, which he claimed was trying to protect Yanam legislator Malladi Krishna Rao  with Union Minister V Narayansamy was playing a major role in this.
