6 Kids rescued from worksites

All boys were school drop-outs

As part of the district-wide drive conducted by the Child Labour Abolition Support Society, CLASS, six children were rescued on October 25.

According to M Rajapandian, director of CLASS, the drive was conducted by field officials of CLASS and officials of the Department of Labour in Gudiyattam, Pernambut and Ambur areas.

At Gudiyattam, 13-year-old boys Jeelan and M Rafeeq were rescued from ZAN Hotel. Three other children -- Zakir Hussain, Mohammed Ali and Shaul Hameed -- found employed at coconut shop and a mechanic shop, were rescued and will be admitted to the Municipal High School, in Gudiyattam.

At Pernambut, R Rizwan (12) and V Lokesh (12) were found employed at Royan Hotel and a tyre vulcanising shop respectively. While Rizwan was admitted to a madarasa school, on Madini street, Lokesh was admitted to Government High School, at Erikuthi. Another school drop out, Vignesh, was rescued from a tyre vulcanising shop in Pernambut and he was also admitted to the Government High School, at Erikuthi.

In Ambur, K Premkumar (13) was rescued from a cycle spare parts shop and was admitted to Union Middle School at Solur village. In Vaniyambadi, M Murali (13) was rescued from a spare parts store and was admitted to a school, at Chettiappanur.

Rajapandian said legal action would be initiated against the employers of children and their establishments would be sealed.
