Sri Lankan Attacks to Be Discussed at Delhi Meet Soon, Says Vasan

A day after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sought the Centre’s intervention at the highest level to stop the attacks on TN fishermen by the Lankan Navy, Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan said a stakeholders’ meeting would be held later this month in Delhi to discuss an amicable solution.

Vasan was addressing reporters after dedicating a mechanised coal handling facility in Vishakapatnam Port on Friday. He said that the meeting would involve all stakeholders, including representatives of Indian fishermen, State government, Ministry of External Affairs and Sri Lankan officials.

Meanwhile, Vasan also commissioned the unified command and control centre, and signed the concession agreement for upgrading the ore handling complex at the Vishakhapatnam port. He said that the establishment of a unified command and control centre at Visakhapatnam, the first of its kind initiative among the major ports, envisaged monitoring and controlling the entire gamut of port operations in a cross-functional and collaborative environment. This would enable monitoring of port operations from one central location on a real time basis.
