Boy Branded with Iron Box, Teacher Held

An Arabic teacher was arrested on the charges of torturing a six-year-old boy and causing injuries by branding him with an iron box near here on Tuesday.

Police said that Yasulin, wife of Abdul Hakkim, a garment worker, was living with her three children, including Ibrahim (6) after she separated from his husband. Yasulin had admitted Ibrahim to Sunnath Jamath mosque in Agrakara Puthur near Tirupur for learning Arabic.

Since the mosque administration was providing food and shelter, the boy had been staying there for the past two months. On Monday, Yasulin and his uncle Zahir Hussain went to the mosque to see Ibrahim. But, the staff did not allow them to meet the boy. After argument with the administration, when Yasulin and Zahir were permitted to meet the boy, both were shocked to see burns all over the body of Ibrahim. Immediately, they rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Based on a complaint, Mangalam police, who registered a case, during investigation found out that Arabic teacher Mohammed Sheik Parith (30) had caused injuries on the leg, back, hand, face and stomach of boy using an iron box.

Police said that he punished the boy for not waking up early and was also irritated over his pranks. Police arrested Mohammed Sheik Parith on Tuesday and sent him to remand.
