Police have assured traders that they will do everything possible to check burglaries in shops.

Police have assured traders that they will do everything possible to check burglaries in shops. This assurance was given at a review meeting on security attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and order) Omveer Singh Bishnoi, Superintendet of Police (North), Praveen Kumar Tripathi, inspectors S Bascarane, Viravallabane and Ranganathan.Pondicherry Traders Federation president Shivsankar and other representatives took part.

The traders brought to the notice of the officials, thefts in four shops in the Muthialpet area. Inspector Bascarane told the traders that the shop owners, who were victims of the burglaries failed to adhere to the instructions issued by the police.

“With the aim of preventing thefts, police had instructed them to use ground locks and advised the use of different locks on different days of the week. But the shop owners did not follow the instructions,” Bascarane said. He said that the instructions to install CCTVs were also being ignored.

The representatives of traders demanded that the police beat be made more effective during night. They appreciated the efforts made by the police to counter the ransom threats from notorious rowdy elements. It might be recalled that the traders had received threats and some of them were attacked for not paying mamool a few months ago and this had come in for severe criticism.
