Cops step up vigil at theatres

Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus Vishwaroopam hit the silver screens in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts amidst tight security on Thursday, after the State Government withdrew the case filed against its release. Five to ten policemen were deployed at each theatre where the film was being screened, as a precautionary measure. Senior police officers said that a team of police personnel from the respective jurisdictions were directed to monitor the situation near theatres to avert any untoward incidents. However, the opening day of the film passed off peacefully.

However, the department would continue the security arrangements for the next few days to ensure safety and security of the movie goers and the cinema theatres, a police officer added.

Kamal Haasan’s fans thronged the cinema theatres two hours before the first show was screened in the Fort City. Similarly Kamal’s fans in different parts of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts gathered in large number for the first show. After editing few scenes of the movie, the issue had been settled and the movie was released.
