Tirupattur sub-collector Shilpa Prabhakar on Wednesday conducted an inquest into the death of the 22-year-old woman who was allegedly force-fed acid by her husband and in-laws.
The case had been referred to sub-collector for inquiry, as Gomathi (22) had died within seven years of marriage.
The sub-collector held inquiry with Gomathi’s parents, Venkatesan and Revathi, her aunt Sagunthala and five of her relatives. She also questioned Sudhakar, his mother and sister.
The inquiry was held for nearly three-and-half hours, from 8 am at the Vaniyambadi Taluk Office, police said.
The body of Gomathi was handed over to her family after post-mortem. Police sources said the doctor, after the postmortem, confirmed the presence of strong acid in her stomach. “The sub-collector is likely to submit her report by Thursday. We will act immediately and arrest the perpetrators of the crime,” a police officer added further. Inspector of Police of Vaniyambadi Town Station Sivalingam said they would take further action based on the reports of the sub-collector and autopsy.
Gomathi, who married Sudhakar (32) of Kodaiyanchi on March 3, 2012, was allegedly forced to drink toilet cleaning acid by her husband, mother-in-law Tamilselvi (52) and sister-in-law Kalpana (22) on Monday afternoon.
Gomathi was taken to the Vaniyambadi Government Hospital for treatment and later shifted to a private hospital at Krishnagiri. She had breathed her last at 3 pm on Tuesday.
Following a complaint that was filed by Gomathi’s mother Revathi, the Vaniyambadi police officials had registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC.
