The bhoomi pooja for a new approach road to Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran’s memorial at Paramakudi was held on Sunday.
The government had earmarked a sum of Rs 2.6 crore for the road and for widening of a small bridge en route the memorial to ensure smooth movement of traffic during the 55th death anniversary celebrations of the Dalit leader. People from various districts visit the memorial in large numbers.
It is learnt that CM J Jayalalithaa had earmarked Rs 2.6 crore to lay a new road adjacent to the canal from the exit point of the memorial to Ponnaiahpuram.
Visitors can use the new road to reach Ponnaiahpuram, on completion. They can proceed to their hometown through Mudukulathur Road or Five Points Road.
