Vijayakant get exemption in appearances

The personal appearance of DMDK leader Vijayakant before eight lower courts that issued summons requiring his presence in the respective courts on various dates, was dispensed with by the Madras High Court on Monday.

The defamation complaints had been filed by the State in various courts following speeches made by Vijayakant against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in different places on various dates. He challenged the government orders granting permission to the respective assistant public prosecutors to file the complaints. His interim prayer was to dispense with his appearance.

A division bench which dispensed Vijayakant’s appearance before sessions courts however ordered notice on the main plea challenging grant of permission.
