Poll freebies found in farm near Salem

Around 800 cotton dhothis and 815 synthetic sarees were seized from a shed at a farm house in an arecanut farm allegedly belonging to a DMK functionary in Pudur village in Kalrayan Hills.
According to sources, officials got a tip-off that sarees and dhothis were brought in a car two days back and kept in a farm in Thekaampttu suspected to be owned by Thenmozhi, a DMK functionary from Tiruvanamallai district, who has been assigned election work in Karumandurai area. It is alleged that the items were brought to be distributed to voters by the DMK.
Subsequently, a flying squad went to the spot around 1 am on Friday to conduct a check. But the shed was shut, the flying squad members broke open the shed and found a few bundles containing 800 dhothis and 815 sarees. The clothes and the car in which the items were brought were seized by the squad.
Attur RDO Jayaraman said that a complaint was lodged with the Karumandurai Police against Thenmozhi as the farm was in her name. AIADMK sources said she was a DMK functionary. Later in the day, the same flying squad seized 174 dhothis from a saloon opposite the Karumandurai police station.
As the battle for the ballots at Yercaud is reaching a crescendo, and the two Dravidian parties in the fray are accusing each other of violating the code of conduct, the District Election Office has notified that the campaign of top leaders is going to be videographed.
In a statement, the District Election Office K Maharbushanam said campaigns of all prominent leaders will come under the special surveillance.
Official sources clarified that the campaigns of Chief Minister J Jaylalithaa on November 28 and MK Stalin, the next day will come under the scanner.
