Ragging charge at Pondicherry university

Two first-year girl students filed complaints with the Vice-chancellor of the Pondicherry University alleging ragging by a senior student

Two first-year girl students filed complaints with the Vice-chancellor of the Pondicherry University alleging ragging by a senior student. In separate complaints, the girls also said the senior student threatened to sexually assault them, if the ragging was reported to the university authorities.

The students in their complaint said the senior student, who came on a bike along with another person, passed snide comments at them on September 21. When the girls asked them what was the matter, the senior student in the Department of Physical Education used abusive words and showed vulgar gestures.

The girls further alleged that a day after the incident the same person told them that if they were about to go for a complaint, he would assault them sexually.

“The mental depression we went through after the incident is inexplicable. Now we are in such a situation that we have to live under constant fear of being harassed and sexually assaulted at any moment and we fear that we might not finish our course in this university,” one of the students said in the complaint. They have requested the vice-chancellor to take  necessary action.
