Activists oppose India's participation in CHOGM; arrested

About150 activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam were arrested after they staged a rail roko demanding the Centre to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month.

Over 50 activists were arrested at Tambaram railway station, while 40 were arrested at Chromepet railway station, police sources said.

Another 50 activists were arrested in Pallavaram railway station, they said.

Sub urban rail traffic was affected in the Chennai Beach -- Tambaram for a few minutes following the protest, they said.

Political parties in Tamil Nadu and many pro Eelam activists in the state have been demanding the Centre to boycott the CHOGM in Colombo, contending that the island republic was guilty of genocide against Tamils living there.
