Tension prevailed at a private matriculation school here, after some parents picketed the school alleging that a PET teacher had beaten up a LKG girl. Parents allegedly assaulted the teacher, who was later picked up by the police.
On Thursday, parents and relatives of the girl and parents of other students of the Sri Vivekananda Matriculation School at RG Pudur near Peelamedu, gathered on the campus alleging that the PET teacher of the school, Vivekanandan of Karayampalayam in Annur, had beaten up the four-year-old girl. Angry parents also entered the principal’s room and started thrashing the teacher.
On information, the Peelamedu police rushed to the school and held talks with parents, who also alleged that the PET teacher had sexually abused the child. Following this, the police sent the girl to a private hospital for a checkup. However, a woman doctor who tested the girl said that the child was not sexually abused, according to the police.
In the meantime, parents of another girl student too alleged that their daughter was beaten up by Vivekanandan and confronted him. The police, who rescued Vivekanandan, took him to the station for further inquiry.
“We have sent both girls to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a check up. After obtaining a statement from the doctors, we will take appropriate action,” said a police officer.
When contacted, the principal of the school T Malathi said, “There is no PET teacher for the LKG and UKG sections. We have two teachers in each class for LKG and UKG sections and these tea-
chers will always accompany the students. So there is no possibility of PET teacher having beaten up the kids.”
The principal alleged that when she asked the parents and the public to be patient till the school authorities enquired him, they lost their cool and started beating up the PET teacher and tried to beat her up as well for trying to save him.
