Septuagenarian 'Euthanise' ailing sister

A 70-year-old man on Tuesday surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) stating he had killed his ailing elder sister on Monday, as he was unable to see her suffering from various age-related ailments with no one to look after her. He was later arrested by the taluk police.

Parvatham (77) had been living with her brother Murthy, a retired Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation (TANSI) employee, after the death of her husband. Murthy had married Parvatham’s daughter Pushpa. The couple had three daughters, all of whom were married.

On Monday, when the rest of the family was away, Murthy reportedly strangulated Parvatham to death and buried her body on an adjacent poromboke land.

During interrogation, Murthy said he committed the act as he was unable to see Parvatham, whose condition worsened of late, suffering from ailments.

He said that her sons were not looking after her and in the past few days, Parvatham’s condition had worsened and she was unable to move without help.

Murthy said as he too was old, he was unable to give proper care to his sister.

So he decided to kill his sister to release her from her pains.
