In a tactical shift in NaMo-focused campaigning as the poll day is nearing in Tamil Nadu, MDMK supremo Vaiko said here on Friday that victory of BJP leader Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate alone would not solve the issues of the State, but the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning all 39 seats should help to resolve all the issues.
Campaigning in Anuppanadi areas, Vaiko, who is contesting the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha seat with support from the NDA, said the NDA alliance would win more than 320 seats and Modi would become PM.
Tamil Nadu was facing constant threats from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh regarding water sharing and from neighbouring country Sri Lanka regarding fishermen issues, he added.
“The State is facing threat from all four sides. Hence, if we (NDA) win all 39 seats, we can fight it out,” said the MDMK leader.
Kerala spent crores to demolish the Mullai Periyar Dam, and if it was done, many southern districts of the State including Madurai could not get drinking water, he added.
Tamil fishermen were being attacked by Sri Lanka, where innocent Tamils were killed and many women were raped during the Eelam war. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was responsible for the alleged genocide in the Island nation, he said.
“All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi could have then come to Tamil Nadu and also advocated about her stand. I will question her if I get elected to Parliament,” he assured.
Taking a dig at DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, the MDMK leader said that DMK founder
C N Annadurai did not want to open liquor shops but his follower Karunanidhi inaugurated them and that the liquor
consumption was the main reason behind many major crimes, especially crime against women.
In order to stop mothers, sisters and wives from crying, he would continue to strive for closure of liquor shops, he stated.
