Mohanambal, Sister Remanded for Fortnight

VELLORE: A court in Katpadi has remanded folk dancer, Mohanambal when she was produced before the Magistrate here on Friday.

The police had taken custody of her and her sister Nirmala, for interrogating them  which went on for 48 hours in connection with the seizure of `4 crore cash and 73 sovereigns of gold from a house in Dharapadavedu last month.

Following this, Mohanambal   had gone  missing. When the police was on the look out for her, she sprang a surprise by surrendering before a Vellore court on Monday this week along with her sister Nirmala. After surrendering, she had claimed that she was undergoing medical treatment in Chennai, owing to a knee problem.

The Vellore court had remanded the sisters for three days.

When Mohanambal and her sister were produced in the Katpadi Court on Wednesday, the police was granted 48 hours custody, for quizzing the duo in connection with the case.

Again on Friday, when the sisters were produced before Magistrate Sujatha, she ordered 15 days of judicial custody for them.

Following the magistrate’s order, both the sisters were taken to the women’s prison in Vellore amidst tight police security.
