CM Launches Slew of Welfare Schemes for Adi Dravidars

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated new hostels, residential schools, community halls etc., for students belonging to the Adi Dravida community, all constructed at a cost of `26.41 crore.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated new hostels, residential schools, community halls etc., for students belonging to the Adi Dravida community, all constructed at a cost of `26.41 crore. She also launched the distribution of a revolving fund to the members of the Self Help Groups, vehicle loans and loans for economic development to 645 beneficiaries from the SC/ST communities through TAHDCO, to the tune of `33.57 crore. Seven persons received the loans and funds from the Chief Minister in person at the Secretariat on June 11.

The buildings inaugurated by the Chief Minister through the video conferencing facility include hostel for SC/ST students at Menampedu in Tiruvallur district, constructed at a cost of `51 lakh, colleges and IITs and school buildings in 39 places, built at cost of `21.77 crore.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister inaugurated school and library buildings constructed at a cost of `35.30 crore and laid foundation for new buildings to be built at a cost of `5.50 crore. 

The new buildings inaugurated by the Chief Minister include 24 classrooms and laboratories constructed at a cost of `21.22 crore in the districts of Kanyakumari, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Namakkal and Erode, 10 Kasturba Gandhi Palika Vidyalaya residential schools built at a cost of `3.49 crore in the districts of Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Erode and library buildings constructed at a cost of `2.6 crore in the districts of Vellore, Tuticorin, Coimbatore, Namakkal and Sivaganga to benefit 47,091 readers.
