VELLORE: A young couple allegedly committed suicide at their house in Kumaramangalam village near Ambur on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Tamilarasan (25) of Kumaramangalam and his wife Shymala (23). They had got married on 26 February this year.

The preliminary inquiry revealed that Tamilarasan and Shymala quarrelled over a trivial issue on Sunday night. After the fight, Tamilarasan went into a room and locked the door. After repeated knocks at the door fetched no response from her husband, Shymala peeped in through the window and found Tamilarasan hanging. Shattered by this, she also ended her life by hanging in another room. The incident took place when Tamilarasan mother had gone to a nearby house to sleep, said the police.

The incident came to light after Tamilarasan’s  mother came home in the morning. Following a complaint from the girl’s family, the police registered a case in this regard and forwarded it to the Tirupattur sub-collector Shilpha Prabhakar, for a sub-judicial magistrate inquiry into the death of Shymala, who had died within seven years of marriage. The couple’s bodies were sent to the government hospital in Ambur for post-mortem.
