Two Students Die in Mishap

COIMBATORE: In a tragic incident, two students of a private engineering college died in a road accident at Lakshmi Mills Junction on Monday midnight, when their bike collided with a TNSTC night bus. Another student, who sustained injuries, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

R Hareshwaran (19) from Ganapathipalayam, Mohan Nagar in Salem, V Tarun Kishore (19) from Anna Nagar, Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli and Syed Mohammed (19) from Kelambakkam in Chennai, were third-year production engineering students in PSG College of Technology. On Monday night, they had gone to watch the night show at a cinema theatre near Race Course. They were returning to their college on one bike.

Near Lakshmi Mills Junction, a TNSTC night service bus from Singanallur to Gandhipuram collided with the bike. Both the vehicles were reportedly over-speeding. The bike rammed against the frontside footboard of the bus, said a police official.

The students were thrown off the bike. Hareshwaran and Tarun Kishore died on the spot. Syed Mohammed sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital.

Traffic Investigation Wing police personnel rushed to the spot. They sent the bodies to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Relatives and friends of the deceased had gathered at CMCH. The bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem. Police have registered a case against the bus driver, Palanisamy (55) from Sulur.
