Pay Rs 25L to Gudiyattam Victims: Kin

VELLORE: Relatives of victims who died in the explosion that levelled a firecracker factory in Gudiyattam on Tuesday, including those who were injured in the explosion, protested in front of the Gudiyattam Government Hospital demanding compensation of `25 lakh to each of the deceased member’s family and `10 lakh each to the injured persons. They demanded arrest of the owner of the firecracker manufacturing unit.

Around 100 persons, including relatives of the four deceased and seven injured persons, staged a demonstration from 10 am to 3 pm in front of the hospital where the injured persons are undergoing medical treatment.

Protesters also demanded that the State government provide their children educational support. “We want the government to announce compensation and education support to families of the deceased,” said A Vasanth Kumar, cousin of Manimegalai(40), who died in the explosion.
