CM Rangasamy Clarifies On Smart City

PUDUCHERRY: Dispelling all the doubts and confusion about the Smart City project, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said a panel will be formed and proposals as per the smart cities guidelines will be made and submitted to the Centre. He was addressing the gathering at the launch of Digital India Week (DIW) at the Pondicherry Engineering College here on Thursday. Clearing the air around the project, the CM pointed to the fact that Puducherry definitely figures in the list of cities approved by the government of India, said the discussions over UT’s inclusion was unnecessary. He added that Puducherry may even figure in the final 25 cities after the clearance of the proposals. He said there was unnecessary confusion generated and wrong information was spread that Puducherry had been excluded from the list of Smart cities. This was not needed, he added. The panel, termed in the guidelines as ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’ will be formed and proposal for the project will be submitted to the Union government. Earlier, L-G, Ajay Kumar Singh had categorically said Puducherry is included in the list of 100 cities for the Smart City project.
