ARUPPUKOTTAI: In a shocking incident a 12-year-old boy died as he fell from a Columbus ride at an exhibition here on Wednesday night.
Surya and two of his friends were in a standing position when the Columbus Ride was operated. But, suddenly they lost balance and fell from the ride. Surya, who sustained serious injuries died on the spot, while Rajesh (23) and Karthik (24) of Aruppukottai, who sustained injuries, were rushed to a Aruppukottai hospital.
Police said, Surya, son of Kannan of Madurai district, was staying with his relative Rukkumani at Aruppukottai. He was a Class VII student in a government school located at Aruppukottai.
On Wednesday night Surya and his neighbours Rajesh and Karthik went to an exhibition organised in a private school ground at Aruppukottai. They paid for a ride. Instead of sitting in the compartment, the trio was found standing when it was operated and fell off the ride.
Based on a complaint from Rukkumani, the Aruppukottai Town police have registered a case against Chandrasekar from Thanjavur, who was in charge of the ride and Padian and Rajendran of Aruppukottai, who organised the exhibition.
