Police Inspect House Where Maoists Met

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore District police on Thursday inspected a house at Kumarapuram near Mettupalayam where alleged Maoist sympathisers had held a secret meeting.

A team of the District police led by DSP S Sakthivel conducted the check based on information provided by Kannan, one the five people arrested by the ‘Q’ Branch police recently. Kannan was later taken into custody by the District police in connection with the disappearance of a youth, A Santhosh Kumar from Aliyar, who was allegedly enrolled in a Maoist organisation. Santhosh Kumar had allegedly been taken to the house at Kumarapuram.

The police obtained some documents and notices from the house which has been converted into a library now.

Police said the Maoists had rented the house to hold secret meetings. They believe Santhoshkumar stayed there for a few days before he went into the forest for Maoist training.
