State-level Sports Selection Trials for Students from July 8

VELLORE: The Centre of Excellence, run by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), is conducting State-level selection trials for students studying in Classes VI, VII and VII,(age group 10-14 years) and who are excelling in sport.

According to a release from the district sport officer, the selection trials will be held on July 8 across the State to fill up 37 seats as per the following schedule:

For girls, trials for badminton (four seats) will be held at the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, and for swimming (11 seats) and Gymnastics (11 seats), the trials will be held at the District Stadium in Erode.

For boys, badminton (4 seats) and taekwondo (2 seats) trials will be held in the District Stadium, Tiruchy, while boxing (1 seat), tennis (2 seats) and swimming (2 seats) trials will be held in the District Stadium in Tirunelveli.

Class VI candidates should have been born on or before January 1,2003.

Class VII candidates should have been born on or before January 1,2002 and Class VIII candidates should have been born on or before January 1,2001.

Food, accommodation, uniform and coaching will be provided to the students free of cost at the centre. If any student discontinues the course, he/she has to pay a penalty of `250 per day.

Applications for admission to the centre can be downloaded from www.sdat.tn.gov.in and completed forms should be submitted at the time of selection trials.
