Fix July 6 as Deadline for CENTAC Admissions: Assn

PUDUCHERRY:  Puducherry Students and Parents Welfare Association sought an extension of time for admission of students sponsored by CENTAC to colleges till July 6, as the students have been unable to pay up the high fees charged by the four deemed medical colleges.

In a statement, the president of the association, V Balasubramanian, said several students failed to join by the last date on July 2. However the education secretary and CENTAC chairman Ragesh Chandra issued a circular directing colleges not to collect the tuition fees while admitting students as it would be remitted by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) under Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Financial Assistance Scheme (PKFAS). The colleges need to send the relevant particulars of the students who have been admitted to the DHTE, who in turn will process their cases and tuition fee for the first year would be sanctioned. He cautioned the colleges against demanding full fee from students.
