'Asked My Friend to Double-check Result'

CHENNAI: She may have given up a sport she liked, and a job she liked even better. In return, what she got was not just a lifetime’s worth news clippings but a tall dream that thousands clamour for year after year. Charusree T from Coimbatore has aced the UPSC exams 2014-2015, securing all India 6th rank and 1st in Tamil Nadu.

“When I first heard the news, I asked my friend to check again, I thought it was another Charu,” says the modest 24-year-old only hours after the news reached her ears. Truth is she is clearing the Civil Services exam for the second time consecutively, taking a giant leap from the 749th rank secured last year in her first attempt that landed her into IFS training.

In 2013, Charu quit her job as a hardware designer to put in extra effort for her three-lettered dream - IAS. It was her very first job at Qualcomm, after passing out from Electronics and Communications Engineering at Anna University.

And though burning the midnight oil and toiling for the exams did cost her little things like badminton, classical dance and bigger things like a job; Charu gushes that it was worth every little sacrifice.
