25 Hurt in Bus-lorry Collision, 3 Critical

COIMBATORE:As many as 25 passengers were injured when a lorry collided with a private bus at Periyamamarathupatty near Pollachi, on Tuesday morning.

Sources said, Iyappan, driver of a tipper lorry carrying construction materials, lost control and rammed a private bus operating between Pollachi and Erisanampatti at Periyamamarathupatty.

The lorry was rashly driven, and the private bus was hit on its front side at four corner junction at Periyamamarathupatty on the Samathur, Erisanamaptti road by 10.30 am. The lorry overturned, and the front portion of the bus was badly damaged. Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. A few were taken to the Pollachi government hospital and others to some private hospitals.

Of the 25 injured, the condition of three - bus driver Kaliyappan and conductor Arunkumar, and a woman passenger Saraswathy, is said to be serious. Traffic became normal on the Samathur and Erisanampatti road after nearly two hours.

C Raju, sub-inspector of Aliyar Police station, told Express that they are on the look out for lorry driver Iyappan, who fled the spot. Police said that the three were severely injured on their legs, chest and hands and are receiving treatment.

Aliyar police registered a case.
