PUDUCHERRY: Police arrested eight persons in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man, Sasikumar, near Uravayaru, on Monday.
The arrested have been identified as Ravishankar, Gunabalan, Muthazhagan, Jeeva, Silamban, Dakshinamurthy, Veramony, Arulraj.
Sources said Sasikumar was murdered by the men due to previous enmity and the deceased belonged to a rival miscreant group. Clashes among the anti-social elements are nothing new as they attempt to gain upper hand, sources added.
Sasikumar, son of Deepangan of Uravayarupet near Mangalam, was involved in various crimes. On Sunday night, Sasikumar consumed liquor with his friends, when suddenly the gang pounced on them.
The gang had Sasikumar as target and hacked him to death with sickles. Also, one of his hands was chopped off and he was dead in a poll of blood.
The Mangalam police went to the spot and recovered the body and shifted it to hospital for autopsy. Further investigations are on.
