COIMBATORE:Police and the District Child Protection Unit are investigating an incident, where a four-year-old boy was allegedly branded with a hot iron rod by a woman near Erimedu in Puliyakulam.
Police sources said that the boy was with his grandmother and was playing inside the compound of the landlady. Her house was located in close proximity to where the boy was staying with his grandmother. Upset that the boy had trespassed into her property, the woman allegedlybranded him with a hot iron rod, the sources added.
Officials from ChildLine said that the boy had been branded on two other occasions by the 45-year-old woman. However, the boy's grandmother had been reluctant to register a complaint with the police fearing eviction from the rented property.
The child had developed an infection on his foot due to being branded on a previous occasion by the woman, sources said.
Ramanathapuram police are expected to file an FIR in the case by Tuesday night.
