Jayalalithaa Puts Party in Poll Mode

Directs cadre to hold public meetings and highlight her govt’s achievements, celebrate landslide victory in the RK Nagar by-election

CHENNAI:With just 10 more months for the 2016 Assembly poll, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday put the party machinery on ‘election mode’ by directing functionaries and cadre to reach out to the people and effectively spread the message of the government’s achievements during the past four years.

Well, this  kind of gearing up is not new to the AIADMK. For, Jayalalithaa had started preparing cadre for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from 2012 onwards and reaped a windfall, winning 37 of the 39 LS seats.

Giving a ‘status report’ of almost all welfare programmes,  the AIADMK supremo, in a statement here, said “we are awaiting to roll out many more such welfare schemes in the coming years.”  She directed party cadre to organise public meetings across the State for three days from July 10 to highlight the AIADMK government’s achievements and also celebrate the landslide victory in the RK Nagar bypoll. Then, street corner meetings besides distributing pamphlets, listing the successes.

“The AIADMK government, after overcoming all the trials and tribulations, now is on its  fifth year on the service of the people, proving the adage - ‘if God be with us, who can be against us ?’ .  In line with the view of the party founder MG Ramachandran that ‘the goals of good-hearted will succeed’, the AIADMK government has been successfully implementing many historic schemes. “The State has won many accolades at the national level for implementing numerous schemes which are first of its kind in the country”, she said and added that after many years, power supply in Tamil Nadu had been fully met, she maintained.

Commencement of Metro Rail service,  generation of additional 5,346.5 mw power through new projects and power purchase agreements, opening of 298 Amma canteens, new desalination plant at Nemmeli at a cost of Rs 805.08 crore, 33 MoUs with domestic and MNCs for an investment of Rs 31,706 crore which would provide employment opportunities  to 1.62 lakh persons, Issuance of orders for seven new industries with an investment of Rs 17,134 crore which would provide employment opportunities to 17,901 persons,  sale of Amma cement to the tune of 2.80 lakh tonnes at subsidised rate, distribution of 20 kg free rice to 1.69 crore family cards were some of the government’s achievements.
