Student Tries to Save Friend knifed by Collegemate

VELLORE:  A third year student of Government Thirumagal Mills College in Gudiyattam stabbed a fellow student in the neck with a knife at about 12.20 pm following a quarrel over eve-teasing.

Balasubramanian (20), a second year B A Economics student, was stabbed by Murasoli, a resident of Agaram Colony near Veppankuppam village. Balasubramanian has been declared as being in stable condition by doctors at the Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore.

“Balasubramanian sustained a four-inch deep stab on the  right side of his neck. He was operated on at the CMC Hospital and was declared out of danger,” said Superintendent of Police of Vellore, P K Senthilkumari.

The SP said the entire incident was caught on CCTV camera in the college campus.

Murasoli is alleged to have been eve-teasing a first-year student of the college. The girl’s brother, Saravanan, also a student of the college, confronted Murasoli and warned him to stop harassing his sister which resulted in a quarrel that led to fisticuffs. Balasubramanian rushed to the rescue of Saranvanan. Murasoli took out a penknife that he kept hidden in his pant pocket and stabbed Balasurbramanian.

Balasubramanian was rushed to the GH in Gudiayttam. After being administered first aid there, he was referred to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) for further treatment. The doctors in GVMCH referred him to the CMC Hospital where he was operated on and declared as being in stable condition.

The Gudiyattam Town police registered a case against Murasoli on charges of attempt to murder and laun-ched a manhunt for him.

The administration of the college declared a two-day holiday (Thursday and Friday), following the incident.
