Faking at the Crematorium On for 3 Years in Tiruchy

TIRUCHY: Two workers of the gasifier crematorium at Karumandapam here, suspected to have played a role in various malpractices over a period of time in connection with cremating bodies, were arrested by the police on Sunday.

Kumar (45) and his assistant Chandrasekar (50), were nabbed by a special police team headed by Cantonment inspector S Umasankar from their hometown at Papanaikanpalayam in Namakkal district.

Both of the accused would be produced before the court on Monday, said the police.

During interrogation, the two confessed to their crime which had been going on for the past three years, said Umasankar.

The duo told the police personnel that limited availability of gas and improper maintenance of the furnace made them struggle to cremate bodies everyday. Moreover, as the furnace would stop working often, the duo  duped the public on many occasions by offering readymade last remains (asthi) which they kept available without cremating the bodies immediately.
