Passport Numbers Up by 15 Percent

The issue of passport services at the Regional Passport Office here in 2014, has increased by 15 percent compared to the previous year.

COIMBATORE:The issue of passport services at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here in 2014, has increased by 15 percent compared to the previous year.

The RPO here received 1,15,420 applications in 2014 and rendered 1,16,010 passport services, which includes issue of passports and rendering of police clearance certificates. The issue of passport has increased by 15 percent during this year, Regional Passport Officer, S Sasikumar, said in a release. During 2013, the RPO received 99,586 passport applications and 1,383 miscellaneous service applications and issued 1,01,929 passports and rendered 1,383 miscellaneous services.

Till June this year, the RPO received 69,992 applications for passport and another 1,064 applications for miscellaneous services. The RPO has issued 65,797 passports and 1,064 miscellaneous services.

The Regional Passport Office here has secured a hat-trick in performance, and was awarded the 'Certificate of Excellence' from the Ministry of External Affairs for achieving extraordinary standards of passport services delivered to the public during 2014-15, and for having implemented several innovative measures for the delivery of best series to the citizens of the region, the release added.

With a view to appreciate the contribution of our consistent service to residents of this region, the association of different organizations called 'Citizens of Coimbatore', which includes Siruthuli, RAAC, TASK, United Jamath, Universal Brotherhood Association, RHYTHMS and Youth Foundation gave an appreciation award to the Regional Passport Office here, on Monday. The award was given by City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan and Regional Passport Officer S Sasikumar received it.
