Vendors Fume Over Water Logging at Pondy Bus Stand

PUDUCHERRY:The fruit vendors and auto rickshaw drivers picketed the entry gate of the New Bus stand demanding the immediate removal of clogged rain water, which caused filthy smell in the area.

One of the vendors inside the bus stand said there was not enough urinal sheds inside the new bus stand and the passengers, including women, were forced to use an area in the middle of the bus stand.

He said the rain water, mixed with urine, was causing dirty smell for the last two days and the civic authorities did not take any efforts to drain out the clogged water.

The auto drivers and fruit vendors on Monday gathered and blocked the entry gate of the bus stand.

This caused traffic jam as buses were lined up from Nellithope signal to the entry gate of the new bus stand.

After receiving information, Orleanpet police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators.

But the protestor insisted that the municipal authorities should come and talk to them.

A couple of civic officials reached the spot and assured that the clogged water will be cleared following which the agitation was called off.
