CHENNAI: Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani has directed Metrowater officials to ensure regular and even supply of drinking water to all parts of the city. He also asked them to explore the places where additional water resources are available and procure water for supply to Chennai residents.
At a review meeting held on July 20, the Minister took note of the present storage level in the reservoirs around Chennai and gave suggestions to manage water supply till the end of the summer. Due to insufficient rains, the lakes which provide water to Chennai have very less storage. Besides, the storage at Srisailam, Somaseela and Kandaleru which provide water for Telugu Ganga project also remains very low.
The Minister examined the possibility of storing rain water to the full capacity of the lakes around Chennai by desilting the catchment areas of these lakes.
