PTK Asks DMK to Include Prohibition in Poll Manifesto

Instead of only promising to consider prohibition if voted to power, the DMK should include it in its manifesto for the next Assembly election, K Krishnasamy, founder of Puthiya Tamilagam Katchi, said.

COIMBATORE: Instead of only promising to consider prohibition if voted to power, the DMK should include it in its manifesto for the next Assembly election, K Krishnasamy, founder of Puthiya Tamilagam Katchi, said here on Tuesday.

“DMK president M Karunanidhi has announced that the party will consider prohibition if voted to power. Instead of just considering prohibition, the DMK patriarch should make a strong announcement that the DMK will implement prohibition and include it in their election manifesto,” Krishnasamy told mediapersons in the city.

“The number of TASMAC shops have increased and so has the number of people who drink. The culture of Tamil Nadu is degenerating,” he said.

“Even children have have started drinking. A schoolgirl was found drunk. If prohibition is imposed, the crime rate will fall and people will heave a sigh of relief,” he added.

Krishnasamy does not take seriously the contention that if prohibition is imposed in Tamil Nadu, the people will go to neighbouring Puducherry, Karnataka and Kerala to drink.

Meanwhile, he welcomed Kerala’s move to ask for certificates from the Tamil Nadu government on the pesticide content in the vegetable sent to Kerala from here.

“This will also benefit the people of Tamil Nadu. They will be able to use safe vegetables if the State government starts issuing certificates on the pesticide content in them,” he said.

Krishnasamy threatened to stage a protest in front of the Avinashilingam University for Women on August 3 if its administration fails to follow norms of the University Grants Commissioner.
