Cops Rescue Thief From Mob Justice

Residents of Konnampatti village near Vaniyambadi caught a robber red-handed, while he was attempting to burgle a house.

VELLORE:  Residents of Konnampatti village near Vaniyambadi caught a robber red-handed, while he was attempting to burgle a house.

After tying the alleged robber to a pole, they inflicted injuries on him.

Police officials rescued the burglar from the angry villagers and arrested him.

The burglar was identified as Ramnath Durve (35), who is a native of Chattisgarh, for allegedly trying to burgle the house of Viji, a resident of Konnambadi.

During the wee hours of Thursday, Viji was sleeping in front of his house and heard a noise in the house.

When Viji entered the house to check, he saw a man running away through the backyard of his house.

He screamed for help and alerted fellow villagers, who chased Durve and managed to catch him.

While he was being beaten after being tied to a post, other villagers alerted the police, who rescued Durve from the wrath of the angry villagers.

Police are now questioning people involved in the incident to get more information about Durve.

“We are questioning people to find out more about him and his whereabouts. We are looking if he had some partners in the crime,” said a police official at the station.
