'Allocate Funds to Maintain Government School Buildings'

MDMK has urged the School Education Department to allocate necessary fund for maintaining government school buildings.

COIMBATORE:The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has urged the School Education Department to allocate necessary fund for maintaining government school buildings.

In a letter to School Education Minister K C Veeramani and Secretary D Sabitha, MDMK youth wing secretary V Eswaran has said, the department is putting the blame on teachers for the poor maintenance of schools. But, it has not taken adequate attention for the proper maintenance of government school buildings, he said and sought necessary fund for the maintenance of government school buildings.

Toilet in these government schools are in pathetic condition, with some of them do not having doors and few without water facilities, he alleged.

“Some of these government school buildings are in a dilapidated condition. These buildings should be demolished and new buildings should be constructed immediately, keeping in view the safety of students,” he said in his letter.

He further added, “Adequate number of sanitary workers should be appointed in these government schools. As government schools do not have watchmen, anti-social elements are using these buildings for consuming liquor during night hours. Compound wall should be constructed for all government schools in the state.”

Converting government school into commercial complex or other government offices should be stopped immediately.

The land of the government schools should not be used for any other purposes other than education. Play ground facility should be created in all government schools, he added.
