PUDUCHERRY: Police arrested an autorickshaw driver in connection with the murder of his friend here on Friday morning.
According to police, Kannan murdered 35-year-old autorickshaw driver Jai alias Jayakumar near Velrampet on Friday. Police said the deceased was married to Devi and the couple had two children. Jayakumar was living separately from his wife for the past two years.
Jayakumar, who used to park his vehicle at the Marappalam auto stand, developed friendship with Kannan (45), another autorickshaw driver, who hails from Vaikal Veethi, Velrampet. Jayakumar frequented the house of Kannan and developed an illicit relationship with his 16-year-old daughter, who is a polytechnic student. When he came to know about it, Kannan warned Jayakumar.
On Friday morning, Jayakumar reached near Kannan’s house to meet his daughter. Learning about this, Kannan rushed to the spot, attacked him with a wooden log. A fatal blow on his head killed Jayakumar on the spot.
Kannan enacted a drama creating an impression that a bike-borne Jai fell down accidentally in front of his house and died. Initially police booked an accident case and started investigation. But, after noticing the injury on the back side of Jai’s head they grew suspicious and interrogated Kannan, who confessed to the crime.
