COIMBATORE/TIRUPUR: Two persons were killed while 14 others injured, some seriously, after a lorry and a van collided head-on at Perumpally near Palladam in Tirupur, on Sunday.
The van, carrying around 15 occupants, was heading to Karumathampatty. Most of the occupants were from Karanyapudur in Karumathampatty. They had gone to Tirupur to attend a temple festival. Near Perumpally, the van collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. It was overtaking another vehicle, and had strayed into the path of the van which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
An occupant of the van, Maheshwari (46) died on the spot, and lorry driver V Karupaiah (42) from Madurai, also died almost immediately. The injured are being treated at the Palladam Government Hospital, while the seriously injured were brought to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
