NLC Talks Fail, Trade Unions to Continue Strike

CHENNAI: Yet another round of talks between the representatives of the trade unions and the management of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) failed on Monday in Chennai.  Following this, the trade unions announced that their ongoing strike would go on.

Talking to mediapersons after the talks, Rama Udhayakumar, secretary, Anna Thozhil Sangam said the NLC management refused to accept the demand for 24 per cent hike in the wages and they stuck to their earlier stand that only 10 per cent hike was possible. He said the Central government should intervene in the issue and accept the demands of the permanent workers.

Udhayakumar also said the Labour Commissioner had promised to hold discussions on Tuesday with the NLC Chairman and Director. The NLC management has called the unions for next round of talks on July 29.
