War of Words between AIADMK, DMK over School Dining Hall

COIMBATORE: The Corporation council meeting held here on Monday turned ugly as DMK and AIADMK councillors exchanged war of words over the opening of a corporation school dining hall at Rathinapuri.

At the meeting, AIADMK councillors blamed DMK Councillor Meena Loganathan for opening corporation school dining hall at Rathinapuri, violating protocol and dubbed it as discourteous.

According to sources, DMK councillors came to the meeting wearing black clothes. They alleged that corporation officials were showing bias in allotting civic works and that that works are progressing only in wards of AIADMK councillors.

Mayor P Rajkumar asked Meena Loganathan to understand the role of a councillor and stop such discourteous acts in future.

Following this, DMK councillors attempted to gherao Mayor Rajkumar but AIADMK councillors stopped them. Condemning this, DMK councillors staged a sit-in protest inside the council hall and raised slogan against the Mayor.

Subsequently, police personnel forcefully drove DMK councillors out of the council hall.

“During the DMK regime, AIADMK councillors did not violate the protocols. Due to some administrative reasons, the officials were asked to open the dining hall at the primary school. But the ward councillor Meena Loganathan opened the dining hall along with her party cadre. This was an act aimed for publicity,” said mayor Rajkumar.

Later, Mayor Rajkumar suspended Meena Loganathan from participating in the next three council meeting and recommended corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan to take criminal action against her.
