24-year-old Journo Killed Over Illicit Affair with Brother's Paramour

VELLORE:  A 24-year-old, reporter for a Tamil-daily, was murdered by his brother and friends over a family dispute in Vellore. Four persons were arrested by the Vellore South police officials on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as G Sathish Kumar, a resident of Kaspa in Vellore. The police arrested Vasanth Kumar (28) and his friends Azim, Malik and Yasim of the same locality on Wednesday.

After Vasanth Kumar’s father’s demise, a few years ago, Kumar was living with his elder brother Vasanth Kumar, who was unemployed and his mother Sailaja, who is working in a private hospital as a helper and his grandmother.Vasanth was alleged to be having an illicit relationship with a married woman for the last four years. Sathish allegedly became friends with his brother’s illicit lover.

According to a police official, Vasanth allegedly planned to eliminate his brother after coming to know Sathish’s friendship with his illicit lover. Vasanth, along with his friends, planned to murder him during the wee hours of Wednesday. Sathish’s mother Sailaja was working on her night shift in the hospital when the incident occurred. Sathish was sleeping with his grandmother but she claimed that she did not hear any sound.

Vasanth along with his friends entered the house and “slit Sathish’s throat using a knife and also stabbed him in his stomach,” said a police official.

Vasanth then pretended that someone else murdered his brother and alerted neighbours, who in turn alerted the police station. They body was sent to Vellore GH for postmortem.

“We felt something fishy after Vasanth over-reacted during the inquiry and claimed that he was lying next to Sathish on Tuesday night and found his brother murdered on Wednesday morning in a pool of blood,” said a police official.

Vasanth confessed to the crime during the preliminary inquiry. Knives which were used for the murder were recovered in Konavattam where they threw it after the murder.
