PSU staff get 20 Percentage Deepavali Bonus

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced a Deepavali bonus and ex-gratia payment of 20 per cent to about 3.76 lakh employees in is Public Sector Undertakings. This would cost the ex-chequer Rs  242.41 crore.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister said the employees of Tamilnadu Electricity Board, State-owned Transport Corporations, Tamilnadu Civil Supplies Corporation, Tamilnadu Forest Plantation Corporation, Tamilnadu Tea Plantation Corporation, sugar mills in the Cooperative and Public Sectors, and Tamilnadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation will get 20 per cent bonus. (8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia).

She said all the eligible employees of the cooperative societies would get 8.33 per cent bonus and 1.67 per cent ex-gratia, while the employees of the profit-making cooperative societies would get 20 per cent bonus.

“Workers on contract basis with the Tamilnadu Electricity Board will get Rs 2,000, temporary workers of the Tamilnadu Civil Supplies Corporation and workers of Central Cooperative Societies and District Cooperative Societies, who do not come under the Bonus Act will be given Rs 1,500 as ex-gratia. Workers of the primary cooperative societies who do not come under the Bonus Act will get Rs 1,200 as ex-gratia,” she said.

The C and D employees of Tamilnadu Text Book Society, Tamil Nadu Housing Board and Chennai Metro Water would also be getting 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia, she said. A sum of Rs 242.41 crore as bonus and ex-gratia will benefit 3.77 lakh employees of the State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), she added. “Workers are the backbone for a nation’s economic development. Their progress will only usher all-round prosperity of the nation. The hard labour of work force is essential in increasing yield,” Jayalalithaa said.
