Pondy Residents Give Celebrations a Skip

PUDUCHERRY:CM N Rangasamy unfurled the national flag on the occasion of Liberation Day at a function held near Gandhi Thidal at the beach on Sunday.

Puducherry and three outlying regions were liberated from the French rule on November 1, and the day has been celebrated as Puducherry liberation day for the second year in a row.

CM inspected a guard of honour presented by the Pondicherry Police force to mark the 61st anniversary of the Liberation of Puducherry from the French regime.

March-pasts were held by various contingents of police, fire brigade and students with the accompaniment of police band. Students of various educational institutions, performers of different classical and folk dances were followed by other programmes like Silambam.

Rangasamy flagged off 10 ambulances-cum-beat-patrol vans after dedicating it to the service of the people.

Four mini fire-engines and a sky-ladder, purchased with World Bank assistance for fire-service, were on display in the procession taken out at the venue of the function.

Attendance was scant with a majority of the seats for the public remained vacant.
